Jon's MENSA Question of the Day

--posted by JRJ on 9/22/2005

The professor posted the grades in the seminar exam (coding them by Social Security number). The student who came in two places below the highest score also came in three places above the poor student who found himself at the bottom of the list. How many students were in the seminar?

6 Students total. Here's a simple diagram:

* Highest student
* Random student
* Student mentioned in problem
* Random student
* Random student
* Bottom student

As you can see, the student mentioned in the problem is 2 places below the highest student and 3 places above the bottom student, and there are a total of six students in that diagram.
