Jon's MENSA Question of the Day

--posted by JRJ on 12/26/2005

Daddy gave his three boys the same present - money. He gave them $17 and, being a bit of a practical joker, said, "The oldest gets one-half the money, the middle one gets one-third of the money, and the baby gets one-ninth. However, it must in even dollars." How did the boys solve that one?

The boys borrowed a dollar from Dad, making $18. Then the eldest got $9, the second got $6, the baby got $2, and they gave the leftover dollar back to Dad.
