Jon's MENSA Question of the Day

--posted by JRJ on 5/18/2006

The alleged perpetrator was trying to get even with his foe. This all happened in Puzzleland, so it was easy for him to obtain a sack of magic gunpowder to carry off to his enemy's fort. He did not realize, however, that the powder was self-igniting, and it had been leaking since he stole it. He had been running at his usual magic speed of 14 miles per hour over the 28-mile distance, but had to hide for a while when he reached his enemy's fort. Meanwhile, that magic gunpowder was burning itself up along his trail at the rate of 12 miles per hour. How long could he hide without making a spectacle of himself?
