Poll finds most oppose same-sex marriage

If so many are against gay marriage (as well they should be) why is it so difficult to get the will of the people heard in the Senate?

"65 percent of Minnesotans surveyed oppose legalizing same-sex marriage in the state and nearly that percentage would support a constitutional ban on such unions."
