Bolton will go to the UN

--posted by Tony Garcia on 8/03/2005

So Bolton was given a recess appointment to be the Ambassador to the United Nations. Good. The President should have his choice of nominees for all nominated positions. The nominee should be given an up-or-down vote and if the Senate fails to do its job in voting then the person should be given the position on a trial basis.

In early 2007 Bolton will get an up-or-down vote to continue as UN Ambassador. The President's actions this week will force the Senate to do its job.

That is all that needs to be said on this matter.

Oh, I know that the lefties will come out of the woodwork to bitch about how Bush is being a bully in this and how unprecedented this is.

The few facts that will actually matter in this are all that need to be known. Each President averages about 70 recess appointments per term. That is for cabinet, judicial and ambassador appointments. This includes Supreme Court appointments. This is an historical perrogative dating back to George Washington.

Bush did nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, citizens that love this country should appreciate what actually happened. The Senate failed to do its job (thanks to the Democrats threatened filibuster and other procedural games) and the President now forced them to eventually do their job.

Stop the spin. Stop whining. Shut the hell up on this now, please.
