When it rains it pours

--posted by Tony Garcia on 5/11/2005

Ladies and gentlemen,
I have been having my free time sucked up by water pipe the obtained a hole in it. Unbeknownst to us there was a hole in a drainage pipe from the upstairs bathroom. We only noticed it when the cement (or whatever it was) in the laundry room bulged and shattered the ceramic tiles.

This past weekend for some reason the bulging accelerated to the point that we noticed it. Last night we had to move the fridge, the washer and dryer (the leak affected the abutting corners of our kitchen and laundry room), remove the broken tiles and scoop up the pasty "cement" that was used as a self-leveling cement. Then we discovered where this moisture actually came from and tore up the drywall to get to the leak.

After that we had to repair the hole (which entailed a drive to Home Depot which is 40 miles round-trip). We will have to redo all of the drywall on that particular wall in both the kitchen and laundry room, redo the vapor barrier and replace the insulation, rehang all of the cabinets in the bathroom. Remove the vanity sink/cabinet and toilet, re-level the cement (with not so pasty stuff as the contractor used) and then retile. Then comes the replacing of the vanity and toilet, repainting and putting the appliances back.

Needless to say there will be a lot of work to be done on this problem and consequently less free time for internet reading.

I will attempt to maintain the posting level that I typically have, but at least you all understand why I may miss a day or two over the coming weeks.
