CRNC in trouble, split now to save yourselves

--posted by Tony Garcia on 7/11/2005

(H/T: Save the GOP)

It seems that there is scandal from a leader within CRNC. Big surprise there. I have been saying for months that the people who supported Gourley for CRNC chair were more about personal gain, legal or illegal.

The Chair of the New Jersey CRNC has resigned because of some possibly illegal behavior. This is becoming a recurring theme from Hoplin-ites and Gourley supporters.

A copy of a release from the NJCR can be found here.

Some highlights:
Unfortunately, those schools that have decided to enlist in this crusade of sorts have seen that our new Chairman, Steven Damion, is lacking the utmost important trait of a leader: integrity. In the past several weeks Damion has single-handedly divided the Executive Board of the NJCRs, disenfranchised schools within the state, used his position for personal and
financial gain and provided the entire country with a poor opinion of the NJCRs as a whole.

Those have the marks of someone trained by Hoplin. Just like his proteges in Minnesota (e.g. Kristen Meyer) who made fixing elections an artform.

But it gets better from this Gourley supporter:
The charges as uncovered thus far are as follows:
I. Embezzlement
Used hundreds of dollars from the College Republican account for personal use
1. Paid for trip to Florida(to retrieve an engagement ring) from College Republican account
2. Paid roundtrip airfare for his fiance to the CRNC last month (she was not a delegate and not on official business)
Has impeded the state treasurer from the execution of his duties
1. Switched banks to cover up any potential audits in the future
2. Made the College Republican account inaccessible to the state treasurer, Joe McCarthy
II. Extortion
Demanded a donation of thousands of dollars from the Forrester campaign for information requested by the them.
Intentionally sent donation letters referencing the Forrester campaign without the approval of the campaign.

Again with the campaign letters. Again, lessons learned from Hoplin & Gourley.

I told you before that the CRNC is in deep trouble organizationally. The best thing that anyone can do is get out and start independent groups. Unite those down the road, but any attachment to "College Republican" is going to be disasterous in the future. These types of revelations are only the beginning.

We have in the past 12 months so far (1) unethical campaign letters from the CRNC in 2004 by Hoplin & Gourley; (2) Hoplin/Gourley fixing the CRNC election; (3) Congressman McHenry using intimidation to get people to switch votes from Davidson to Gourley; (4) Forgery in Missouri CR to enable vote switching from Davidson to Gourley; (5) NJCR Chair improperly dismissing Davidson supporters to allow more Gourley delegates to be appointed; (6) Embezzlement and extortion from NJCR chair...

I tired of writing these down. You get the picture. That does not include the scores of shady items within the individual chapters for years (such as doctored elections in the MN CR). The CRs and the CRNC are, almost entirely, in trouble. Time for the good guys to get out, re-organize and continue the fight for right vs. wrong against the left instead of being bogged down with the fight against wrong-doers within the CRNC entrenched leadership itself.

I think you're making a mistake by just cutting and running. They only won by 6 votes.

Gradually allow the cancer to be removed, and we'll see what happens from there.

Seriously Tony, time to drop the whole Kristen Meyer thing.

But yeah, I say divide the group, become independant, go grassroots! Bottom up, that's the GOP way.

Yeah, Marty, perhaps you're right. Besides, no one in the MN CRs seems to care about how crooked things really are.

BTW, welcome back Trillin.

I do want you to get a hold of me sometime.

Scott,
6 votes is as close as the rebellion will get to defeating the Empire. They will be better at fixing future elections. That I guarantee.
