Brain dead delivers baby

RICHMOND, Va. - A cancer-ravaged woman robbed of consciousness by a stroke has given birth after being kept on life support for three months to give her fetus extra time to develop.
Susan Torres, whose plight has attracted support from around the world, gave birth to a daughter Tuesday by Caesarean section. The delivery went smoothly and the baby “is doing well,” her brother-in-law, Justin Torres, wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. Susan Anne Catherine Torres weighs 1 pound, 13 ounces and is 13½ inches long, he said.
Torres, a 26-year-old researcher at the National Institutes of Health, lost consciousness from a stroke May 7 after aggressive melanoma spread to her brain. Her husband, Jason Torres, said doctors told him his wife’s brain functions had stopped.
Did you catch that? Let me repeat it: "his wife’s brain functions had stopped".
Now remember, anti-Terri Schiavo people claim that there was nothing left because there were no "higher brain functions".
See, it is not about the brain functions or this vague concept of quality of life. It should be all about "life". Nothing more and nothing less. I fear the society where Life is not the important factor, and instead "quality of" is the determination.
Why do I fear that. Because it is too easy in that society to justify and act on a comment like this: "The Quality of Life of a Marxist is poor and must be terminated" or "The Quality of Life of a Conservative is poor and must be terminated." (An unrelated tip: stay away from rivers, bridges and Ted Kennedy at the same time.)

Now that she's delivered her baby, is her body going to continue to be kept "alive" by extraordinary measures? This isn't life for her, it's existance.
She was actually brain dead...which is a fair standard. But life was available through her.
What was not a fair (or proper) standard is "quality of life" which is what was used by anti-life advocates who supported pulling Terri's feeding tube.
I'd like to shut off your machines, Eva; you're the most brain-dead individual I've ever come across.
Why is it that the stupidest comments come from the Anonymous? Is it that they are too stupid to even register? Are they just stupid and hence they make stupid comments? Or is it that they are just cowards and hide in anonymity like "Deep Throat"?
