2 yr old dies of crack

VIDALIA, Ga. -- Authorities in Vidalia in south Georgia have charged a woman with murder after her 2-year-old daughter died after swallowing crack cocaine.

Latoya Dixon also faces charges of possession of cocaine, cruelty to children and contributing to the death of a minor.

Vidalia Police Detective Derek Williams said Dixon took her daughter to Meadows Regional Medical Center on Saturday. He said the child was experiencing complications brought on by the ingestion of crack and was airlifted to a hospital in Augusta.

Williams said the girl died on the way to the hospital.

Officials planned an autopsy. Authorities have not released the child's name.

At least they are charging the mother with murder and not manslaughter.
