WNBA Playoffs 2006

--posted by Tony Garcia on 9/05/2006

Try as I might to keep up with all of these minor league playoffs I eventually miss a few. The WNBA Finals are underway and potentially could end Wednesday night. So, to get caught up (for the sake of the informational side of this blog that we try to provide) here is how it all shook out to this point.

WESTERN CONFERENCE 1st ROUND

#4 vs #1
Los Angeles Sparks dropped the first game to the Seattle Storm but slid by in the next two to win the First Round Series.

#3 vs #2
The Houston Comets were outmatched. Sacramento Monarchs swept this series winning both games by an average of 21.5 points.

WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS

#2 vs #1
The Monarchs move on to the Finals with another sweep. The first game was a close one (won by 3 points) but the 2nd game was not (14 point victory).

EASTERN CONFERENCE 1st ROUND

#4 vs #1
Another first round sweep. The Connecticut Sun knocked the Washington Mystics out with a 2-game sweep.

#3 vs #2
The Detroit Shock complete the higher-seed sweep of the first round by beating the Indiana Fever 2 games to 0. The did so in convincing fashion winning by 13 and 15 points.

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS

#2 vs #1
In the Western Conference the #1 seed fell to the #2 seed. And so it goes in the Eastern Conference as well. The Sun did push the series to 3-games. But none of the 3 games were close. Detroit won by 11 and 14 points and Connecticut won by 9.

WNBA 2007 FINALS

#2 vs #2
At this point Sacramento leads the series 2-1. None of the three games were very close. Game 4 is Wednesday night in Sacramento and if needed Game 5 will be on Saturday afternoon in Detroit.

********** UPDATE ********** 9/7/06
Detroit won Game 4 forcing a decisive Game 5 on Saturday.
