Premature celebration award

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/30/2005

(H/T: Erik Schrader's Sports, Music, Blog.)
I saw this on the highlights and laughed my butt off.
Jeremy Shockey gets the premature celebration award of the year. If you didn’t see the Giants vs Seahawks game I’ll get you up to date. Giants were attempting a 40 yard field goal on the final play of regulation to win the game. The kick went up and the field goal barely went wide left. The cameras caught Jeremy Shockey’s reaction as he thought the field goal was good. It’s priceless. Watch it over and over again. You won’t get tired of it.
I agree...it was great. And the video at that link is on a loop so you can enjoy it over and over and over and over and over.

More anti-religion

It seems that even voluntary prayer is not allowed in the schools.
Marcus Borden filed a lawsuit Monday in state Superior Court in Middlesex County claiming his constitutional rights are being violated.

He missed the team's Oct. 7 game when he resigned because the board of education decided he could not participate in or even be present at pre-game prayers. He could be charged with insubordination if he resists.

But a week later, he rescinded his resignation and hired a lawyer.

"Our position is team prayer is permitted, which the district admits," lawyer Ronald Riccio told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Tuesday's newspapers. "But they say Coach Borden can't participate, without saying what that means. All we're asking the court to declare (is) he can bow his head and take a knee, not as prayer but as a sign of his respect and collegiality with his players."

School district attorney Martin Pachman said he has not yet received the lawsuit, but added the district has acted properly.
The district acted properly? They are denying Christians the choice to pray. It is a general policy across the school systems because Muslims are allowed to pray in school.

All the Oil

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/30/2005

(H/T: John Adams Blog)
Actually, I guess a Hat Tip is if they point me to something that I want to comment on. The folks at John Adams Blog simply have a must read.

(Listen for the mass of bubble bursting from global warming freaks.)

Click here for the full text.
From 1970 - 2005 the demand for oil in the United States went from 15 - 20 million per day or about an increase of 1% per year. If you extrapolate this from 2005 - 2105, we will use a total of 1.26 trillion barrels of oil over the next 100 years. A barrel of oil is 5.6 cubic feet, therefore, we will use 7.08 trillion cubic feet of oil over the next 100 years.
...
However, consider that a cubic mile = 147 billion cubic feet. Thus, all the oil that America will use in the next 100 years would fit in a space of only 48 cubic miles. ...when you consider we are drilling down 6 miles for oil (the Earths crust is roughly 40 miles deep), the city of St. Paul would comprise over 300 cubic [miles] (52 sq miles x 6).

When you consider the entire surface of the earth (we also get oil from the ocean) you have 196,940,400 million square miles x 6 or 1.2 billion cubic miles. Of this amount, 48 square miles comprises less than .0000041% of the space in the earth that could hold oil.
...
If the volume of the Earth's atmosphere is more than 10 billion cubic miles, would burning 48 cubic miles of oil into it have any noticable effect?

UPDATE: Lake Superior holds 2900 Cubic miles of water. So all the oil we need for the next 100 years would take up 1.7% of Lake Superior
How can so little be even remotely close to the enormous claims of the militant-envrio-nuts?

Finally the UN speaks about terrorists

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/29/2005

(H/T: Conservative Princess)
Finally the United Nations says something against the terrorism against Israel.
The United Nations Security Council condemned the Lebanese terrorist organization Hizbullah for the first time on Wednesday after the group launched an attack on Israel’s northern border on Monday, injuring 11 Israelis.

Four Hizbullah members were killed in the attack.
Frankly, I don't care how many of those murderous thugs were killed. Too bad more of them didn't die.
The Security Council expressed “deep concern” over what it called Hizbullah’s “acts of hatred.” It also called on both sides to respect the Blue Line and prevent an escalation.
...
Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Syria and Iran encouraged Hizbullah to agitate on the Israeli-Lebanese border in order to deflect attention from the international pressure on Tehran and Damascus and divert it to Israel.
If it happens again Israel should go into those countries militarily and we should stand with them.

Additions to the Candidate Scoreboard

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/29/2005

The scoreboard has been updated. Each of the Congressional races have been added. The Senate and Governor races have been updated and the Attorney General race has been added. Please advise of any changes or corrections.

I thought I would take a moment to give justifications why some of these additions are being started at something other than zero.

Ford Bell, Amy Klobuchar and Patty Wetterling were given the softball treatment by the imps. That means the imps like them and thus the candidates lose 2 pts each. Additionally Wetterling showed us last year how truly uninformed she is, how hard-hard-socialist she is and for that she loses another 2 points. The whole concept from her of wanting to fight terrorism at home instead of abroad warrants another 2 point loss. Klobuchar's record on crime is horrid thus forcing a deduction of 3 points.

Tim Walz I heard on the radio and did the typical, divisive, hate-mongering with Bush-bashing. If he were running against Bush then I would not penalize him since those comments would be relevant. He's not, so his comments prove that he has very little platform beyond "hate Bush". -2.

McCollum has been on the hate-Bush bandwagon for a long time (-2) and has not come up with any solutions (-2). For that she starts in the negative.

I learned about Martin Sabo while I was living in his district...before I got involved in politics. His office NEVER respoded to any phone calls or letters. His votes have been the worst...consistently socialist, not just liberal. I used to refer to him as Congressman Socialist Swine Sabo. It's not fair to refer to him as swine until I meet him so I stopped that. I suppose the "Socialist" term is more of an insult to a freedom loving person, though, than "swine" is. ANYONE would be better than him...including Hilary, Saddam or Wetterling. Hell, the 5-year-old kid down the block would be better. He starts with -99 and ANY opponent, regardless of platform or party, starts with a +99.

I used to live in Steve Kelley's district. I have met him on quite a few occassions as a constituent. Each time he treated me (and I heard from many neighbors the same thing) with disdain. The constituents were beneath him. I never liked his platform and still don't. He is a wannabe elitist and he treats the people poorly...unless they are doing something for him like advancing his career or writing checks to his support structure. That and the hypocrisy that has recently been reported earn Kelley a -10. Mike Hatch's anti-business attitude (-6) and his abusive handling of the Attorney General office (-3) show that he is not the made of the stuff that makes a good executive regardless of his platform. He is in the same boat as Kiffmeyer in that regard. They both would be better off working within their party instead of for the state. Finally, Becky Lourey's association with Moron Mommy Sheehan earns her -6 before anything else. Then I remember that she out-liberaled all of the DFL Gubernatorial hopefuls in 2002...which was very scary. I assume she has the same platform which is antithetical to my own beliefs (-20).

Finally, I believe Entenza is more responsible for the government shutdown than anyone else...and in typical, slimy fashion he refused any responsibility for it. That starts him out at -5. On the other side is Jeff Johnson (not this "Jeff" Johnson)
and unlike when I met Eric Hoplin, my Spidey senses did not go off. (Just for some more reference, my Spidey senses went nuts when I first met one of the 6th GOP candidates and I ignored senses. The Spidey senses have since been proven right.) Though Johnson was on the wrong side of a few internal GOP issue (-2) I like his general message (+1), I think he is highly electable (+3) and I was impressed with him (+2).

No shame from Rowley's campaign

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/29/2005

I posted about how Coleen Rowley tried to deliberately deceive the public by routing a discussion about Able Danger through her campaign website while maintaining that her appearance on KSTP was 100% unrelated to her campaign.

"Ethical Decision Making"--that is her slogan...but her newsletters & updates seem to paint a different picture. One of hypocrisy and deception. (-3 for each of those).

Now there is another horrible wrinkle...the abhorring objectification of children. Worse than that, of her own flesh & blood.
It's horrible to consider that my little granddaughter Olivia was born (along with every other baby in 2005!), already owing the Bush/DeLay 'birth tax' of $36,000 which represents their obligation to pay off the deficit. We must stop the Bush Administration's reckless spending, balance the budget and stop cutting our children's future short.
That's on the front page of her Campaign Website. (-5 for that).

Rowley tries to mislead public

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/29/2005

OK, granted, Chris Kroc's croc-o-crap show has a very small listenership. So don't comment about "no one listens to him anyway." That is not the point here. He had a substitute last night. That sub was talking about the Able Danger story and decided to bring Coleen Rowley on as an expert on the matter. Rowley used her access to 50,000 watts of radio power to mislead the public.

Problem: The very moment Rowley announced her candidacy for Congress she lost her full standing as an expert on anything...especially when polluting the airwaves with her drivel. Why? Because every word she utters is driven for her candidacy regardless of the issue.

She was called to task on that especially since she took pot shots at the "leaders" regarding Iraq. Iraq was 100% irrelevant to the conversation. She acknowledged the possible problem, but assured the audience this particular discussion had nothing to do with her candidacy. This discussion had nothing to do with her candidacy for Congress. Proof that her views are not related to her run for Congress is she wrote many papers on the subject, some of which are on her website, which she gave out. www.coleenrowley.com.

Did you check out her proof that her conversation last night had nothing to do with her candidacy?

Perhaps you would be just as shocked as I was to find out that while claiming to seperate candidacy from her speaking as an expert on intelligence matters she referred people to her expert papers through her Congressional website.

Is that the "Ethical Decision Making" that Minnesotans can count on from her?

(-5).

Specter wants investigation to save Owens

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/29/2005

You mean the Senate Judiciary Committee has to put off hearings on Alito's nomination until January because they are so busy but its chair thinks the Senate should investigate...

...get ready for this...

the Senate should investigate...

...I can't stop laughing at the stupidity of this...

the Senate should investigate the Philadelphia Eagles and the NFL for "a restraint of trade" that violates antitrust laws.
Sen. Arlen Specter has accused the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles of treating Terrell Owens unfairly, and might refer the matter to the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Specter, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, said at a news conference Monday in Harrisburg it was "vindictive and inappropriate" for the league and the Eagles to forbid the star wide receiver from playing and prevent other teams from talking to him.
Vindictive? Are you kidding me? What about the cancerous behavior of Owens. Team rules prohibit jeans & tennis shoes. Terrell shows up in direct and blatant violation of that rule.
This portion of the weekly T.O. escapade began weeks ago when Reid had a meeting with his players and informed them that they must begin to follow the little rules that were in place, most notably the dress code of not wearing tennis shoes or jeans and parking in the back of the Eagles' complex.

Owens, despite Reid's insistence, wore jeans, tennis shoes and a Michael Irvin jersey. Wearing the Irvin jersey after their loss to the Cowboys created a national stir, but Reid actually cared about the other part of his ensemble, the jeans and sneakers. The coach again warned Owens and told him that he was responsible for following the same dress code as the rest of the team.

According to sources, had Owens showed up to Philadelphia's next road game in tennis shoes or jeans, Reid had planned to suspend him and not allow the controversial wide receiver on the team plane. Owens, in what was viewed by many inside the Eagles as pushing Reid, wore a tuxedo and shoes that resembled sneakers but were, in fact, considered shoes.

"He was just trying to push Andy," said one source. "That's what we had to deal with every week."

Owens also parked in a handicap space in the front of the building, citing that he wasn't parking in the back as he was told. Such instances may not sound like much, but the team felt he was constantly trying to push the limits of insubordination and see how far he could push.
So what did happen to Owens, in terms that the average person like me can understand?

Owens is under contract to be with the Eagles. During that time of the contract no other team is allowed to try to arrange or negotiate a deal with Owens without permission from the Eagles. This is standard. The Eagles suspended him without pay for 4 weeks and will simply not have him on the active part of the roster. The latter will be paid.

That's it. They did it because he was a behavioral problem.

Arlen, get your head out of your [bleep] and start doing important stuff like, I don't know, hearings with the Supreme Court nominee.

Maybe it is time to call for every election to be an open seat!

These freaks are still out there

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/28/2005

I love that "Next Blog" button. I found this ridiculous blog. The premise of this blog...that 9/11 was not performed by the Muslims on the planes.
It is quite plausible that explosives were pre-planted in all three buildings and set off after the two plane crashes, which are actually a diversion tactic. Muslims are probably not to blame for bringing down the World Trade Center buildings after all
Yep, you read that right. Oh wait, there's more.
"None of the government-funded studies have provided serious analyses of the explosive demolition hypothesis at all. Until the above steps are taken, the case for accusing ill-trained Muslims of causing all the destruction on 9-11-01 is far from compelling. It just does not add up"
Well, I can tell you why none of the "government-funded studies" have produced squat. They are all run by partisan hacks. The Democrats want to protect Clinton from the scrutiny and criticism he deserves and the Republicans want to protect Bush from any possible scrutiny beyond the unjust crap the left keeps throwing out.

Still, I cannot believe these freaks really believe that crap.

Higher voter turnout as an end

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/28/2005

Sometimes people say the dumbest things that really do tip their hands.

At New Patriot they began riding Pawlenty for scheduling special sessions on questionable days.
Why were these elections held two days before Thanksgiving? Why not a more logical date (like, oh, say, election day)?

The governor has the responsibility for scheduling special elections. Governor Pawlenty scheduled these elections at this time. There's two more special elections coming up to fill seats in St. Cloud. Governor Pawlenty scheduled that special election for December 27. Two days after Christmas. In a college town.
Well, first of all you cannot have a special election until the seat is actually open. Then you have to consider that the special election must be quick enough so the citizens will be without representation for as short of time as possible but far enough out so the Lefty conspiracy theorists would not whine about not having sufficient time for campaigning. Next there is also the complication of election law changes after New Year's.
Pawlenty's press secretary, Brian McClung, defended the governor's decision. He noted candidates need time to file affidavits with the Secretary of State's office, and there's also the possibility of a primary election.

McClung noted the special election is cheaper in December rather than next year because of new regulations that become effective on Jan. 1 under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA)
But that is not the most ridiculous part of New Patriot's posting.
MN Politics Guru thinks that Gov. Pawlenty is trying to manipulate the results of these elections by making them as inconvenient as possible.
...
By contrast, Democrats generally believe "high turnout is an end in itself" as MN Politics Guru says. Obstacles to voting are obstacles to the will of the people.
Sorry, no, wrong answer. "High turnout" as an end is terrible. With every right (like voting) comes responsibility (maintain interest). High turnout does not meet any ends except to guarantee that people who do not take their rights seriously and do not uphold their responsibilities can vote.

I will also make the following charge (again). Same day, even same week registration only allows fraud. Because there is not any proof in this instance only means that it is too difficult to actually prove. When I had infiltrated the University of Minnesota Green Party executive mailing list in the late 90's I was appalled at the repeated coordinations and organizations of getting students from Wisconsin and Iowa to bus up to the U of MN where they would stay with fellow Greenies. The host Greenies would vouch for the students at the polling stations near campus so the visiting people could register on same day and then vote for Paul Wellstone. The plans were underway and then I was discovered and removed from the list before I could copy the archives. There were also flyers floating around the campus asking for hosts.

It happens...and same day registration allows it to be undetectable.

When I was much younger I lived in a very liberal state where you had to register before 30 days prior to an election. I was not paying attention enough to do so and was unable to vote. That is exactly how the system should be. If you are not paying attention to the country enough to even take the trouble to register then you are not responsible enough to enjoy the right to vote.

High turn outs only prove that there are more people pulling levers...or more multiples.

But the very fact that the Dems think that high voter turn out is the end shows that the actual drive towards a responsible and informed public is not an end. They do not want the public to be informed and they do not want very strict identification processes to protect the sanctity of the voting process. They don't want a system that encourages clean elections. They want a system that allows undetectable fraud. That is what same day registration does, that is why "high voter turnout as an end" is their goal as opposed to an educated public.
