Kyoto will crush EU economies

--posted by Tony Garcia on 11/08/2005

Kyoto protocols will cause massive unemployment and economic strif in the European Union countries according to this article.
Meeting Kyoto Protocol targets on greenhouse gas emissions will reduce European economic growth significantly.

That is the finding of a new study from the International Council for Capital Formation, a market-based think tank.

It projects that by 2010, Spain's growth will have fallen by 3%, and that Italy's will shrink by 2%.
...
The US and Australian governments have opted out of Kyoto over economic concerns; and this new analysis of four European states from the International Council for Capital Formation (ICCF) endorses their view that the protocol will prove expensive.

It concludes that by 2010 - the middle of the four-year period in which Kyoto signatory states are supposed to meet their targets - Spain's economic growth will be reduced by 3.1% from what it would have otherwise been, Italy's by 2.1%, Britain's by 1.1% and Germany's by 0.8%.
I hate to say it, but to all of you Kyoto supporters, "I told you so." Kyoto was less about global warming than killing economic progress.

Tony's prediction: The Global Warming crowd will split. The half that really wanted the death of corporations will continue to press the Kyoto merits under the facade of preventing global warming. The half that truly (mistakenly) believes that there is human caused global warming AND that it is somehow reversible will change their story about Kyoto. They will never mention Kyoto again and instead will push vocally for other treaties to be enacted quickly. "Kyoto was bad but we need something in its place and in the same timeframe."

That is my prediction.
