Immigration Rally and AFSCME

--posted by Tony Garcia on 4/12/2006

I just got word that AFSCME, the union for government employees, was using union resources to help organize people for the pro illegal-immigration rally this past weekend.

I am trying to confirm that at the moment...so if I find confirmation you will hear about it.

Now in the meantime how is illegal immigration an issue that a government employees union would be behind? If anything you would think they would want to get the illegal immigrants out because then there would be a more limited work pool which in the end everyone's wages go up.

Partisan hackery from AFSCME...who would have guessed.

********** UPDATE **********
I have the text of the AFSCME member call to the support illegal immigration rally.

The Minnesota March for Immigration with Dignity will take place on Sunday, April 9, 2006. The marchers will meet at the Cathedral in St Paul at 2:30 and we will march to the Capitol. Please click on the attached flyer for more information. Then print it out and share with your coworkers.
The attached flyer being distributed by AFSCME had the following text with my additions in boldface:
bring your family! bring your neighbors! join an urgent and historic national effort to support humane immigration reform
Minnesota March for Immigration with Dignity

minnesotans of all backgrounds and all faiths! like this is a religious matter as well

At this moment Congress is debating the most far-reaching changes (enforcement of current laws is far-reaching) to our immigration laws in decades. What Congress chooses to do in the next two weeks will determine the fate of millions of illegal immigrants and their families and their children. The very character of our nation is at stake. Don't overhype this, please.

Join in this national day of action to support humane immigration reform that will provide:
● A path to citizenship already exists
● Protection of workers’ rights already exists for LEGAL immigrants
● Family reunification already exists
● Dignity and civil liberty for all already exists

Help defeat efforts in Congress that would instead:
● Transform millions of hard working ILLEGAL immigrants into felons. They already are, this is just about enforcing the laws.
● Criminalize charitable and religious assistance of undocumented AKA ILLEGAL immigrants. This is not a bad thing, but I concede this is the ONE part of this flyer that is debateable.
● Separate millions of ILLEGAL immigrant families. Way it goes...if you break the laws of this land you pay the consequences. Curious, do they feel the same way about separating millions of families because of murderers, rapists and child molesters being imprisoned?

Sponsored by the Alliance for Fair Immigration Reform of Minnesota (AFFIRM), and its member organizations. For Information, call 651-291-4542
What I find curious is AFSCME's involvement in this rally and never do they say where this affects their members or how they are helping their membership.

I always thought it was intrestering, how they are fighting to brake the law and it be OK yet my protest of the Speed limit doesn't do any good. At least i'm not falcifying documentatoin.
